Once a Gladiator always a Gladiator, this is the truth for Megatron, formally known as Megatronus. A very long time ago he had been a Champion of the lower-caste people, and the hope for a Cybertron where everyone could experience the freedom to choose their own paths. Once upon a time he had believed in this completely, fighting with everything he had to make this a reality, and to free his world from the caste system. Going from the lowest of the low to a position of great power was intoxicating, and Megatron used that power to conquer everything. To him his life was always a Gladiator arena, there was no way anyone could ever convince him away from this mindset. Life was an endless battle, and only the strongest deserved to survive. The only way to achieve total victory is to destroy your opponent, there is no room for mercy.
Vicious, intelligent, sinister, and willing to take risks that no sane person would take, Megatron is a formidable opponent in terms of Leadership. His subordinates follow him out of a combination of loyalty and fear, the Warlord had a reputation for the things he did to traitors and deserters. He didn’t get his followers by snarling at them and demanding that they follow, however. No, he used his considerable charm and charisma to convince them to his side. Megatron is nothing if not an excellent performer. He knows how to work a crowd, and to inspire an audience through his speeches and actions.
It should be mentioned that staying attached to reality is not one of Megatron’s strongest traits. Oh he visits it from time to time, but mostly he enjoys forging his own reality and going along with that. The world can’t exist without him in it after all. Several years alone in space and the constant exposure to Dark Energon has caused his sanity to decrease greatly, if not entirely disappear.
Sanity or insanity, it doesn’t matter, as Megatron’s cunning, fighting abilities, and leadership skills are still very much intact. He is powerful and he knows it. Not many can stand up in a fight against him, fair or otherwise, and he knows it. The only one who he believes is capable of fighting toe-to-toe with him, and the only one who he believes has the potential to defeat him, is Optimus Prime. In Megatron’s mind, if he defeats Optimus, he himself will become immortal.
So where do we begin with his conflict with Optimus Prime? Once they were close friends, and now they were enemies, as most tragic tales go. Optimus stole what Megatron believed was rightfully his, and he could never forgive him for this betrayal. He obsesses over it to the point where his greatest, most obsessive, desire is to destroy Optimus completely from inside out. He wants to take everything that is dear to Optimus and crush it in his fist while the Prime is watching, and then he’ll finally put an end to Optimus himself. Oddly enough, Megatron probably has the highest option of Optimus out most people, and in many ways, Megatron knows his greatest enemy probably better than he knows himself. Megatron’s obsession with the Prime often takes precedence over everything else.
This is a person who had destroyed his own world because of his ambitions. People didn’t agree with his views, so he immediately made them his enemies, and the only way to deal with enemies is to destroy them in the most final way possible. He doesn’t regret the loss of Cybertron, nor does he take all the credit in its destruction. To him, it was a joint effort between him and Optimus Prime. Interesting, hm?
*Powers/Abilities: Megatron was a gladiator before he was a Warlord, and therefore learned to fight in the arena. His skill with both his fusion cannon and his sword are great, and can usually only be matched by someone with Optimus Prime’s level of fighting abilities. And maybe the occasional insecticon. He’s not limited to his weapons however, Megatron can throw down pretty well in hand-to-hand combat. Megatron’s physical powers are greatly increased when exposed to Dark Energon.
Megatron, as a Cybertronian, has the ability to transform into a Cybertornian jet.

If you have not guessed by now, I have something that belongs to you. Oh fear not, I am making sure that he is most comfortable, but my hospitality has its limits. Come to me and we will work out an exchange.

Do you understand Optimus? This is our fate. This is our destiny. This is what it will always come down to. You and me, the greatest of enemies. Gods even, among our own kind. We were made to force the other to grow stronger, and ultimately one of us will destroy the other. One shall stand, and one shall fall.
Our conflict, our story, has shaped and destroyed worlds. Yet you refuse to see yourself as great. You fail to see that we are as close to equals as I will ever get to a mortal.
How many times in his dreams had Megatron said this to Optimus? How many times had he had the pleasure of destroying the Prime not long afterwards? Many, yet it was a dream he clung to and relished each time he had it. The destruction of his greatest foe was a beautiful thing to behold, even if it was merely a momentary illlusion. An illusion he eagerly anticipated would eventually become his reality.
Perhaps long ago his dreams held fond memories of his former friend and ally. Perhaps once he had even felt some regret over their severed friendship. Something inside them had shattered a long time ago, and neither were keen on giving the pieces more than a cautious glance. Thousands upon thousands of years of conflict and hatred made sure that no such memory or regret could be found anymore, if they ever existed to begin with. Oh indeed he hated Optimus Prime, this went without saying. Megatron despised the very ground the Prime walked on, the energon the Prime used to keep himself alive, and those close to him that would give him comfort. He made it his goal in life to destroy any and all of these things. There was no line he wouldn't cross.
Unlike the Prime, Megatron thrived on this hatred. He did everything within his power to make Optimus hate Megatron as much as Megatron hated him. Victory would only be sweet if the hatred on both sides matched perfectly. Megatron was not fuelled by Dark Energon alone, oh no, he could not survive without anger, violence, and spite. It was a comfort to him. It was why when they fought, Megatron's spark flared with a passionate obsession.
It was a curious feeling, to know everything about a person, yet to not understand them completely. To Megatron, thoughts and emotions were felt during a battle, through the clash of their blades and the heat of their cannons. He had battled Optimus countless times over the millennia. Yet some things about Optimus would forever escape him. There were some things about the Prime that Megatron would never be able to understand, even if he cared to try. He wondered, faintly during his more lucid moments, if Optimus understood him better.
